Information for improving my teaching and for meeting the needs of my students comes from many sources. Some information about what happens in the classroom comes through the formal evaluations that the school asks students to complete at the end of each course. These school course evaluations are very useful to analyze the experience of students and identify ways of improving a course, but I find that they don't provide all the information that I need to identify areas where I can improve my teaching.
To obtain additional information that I can use to evaluate my performance and the learning taking place in my courses, I have started supplementing the school evaluations with critical incident questionnaires and with periodic surveys using survey monkey. These efforts help provide additional information about the learning going on in my courses.
