My study of Bioethics seemed particularly relevant to my development as a societal engineer, as my major is specifically biomedical engineering. In light of this, I was able to study the conceptual ethical challenges inherent in dealing with the wellbeing of humans. I was particularly interested by ethical challenges presented by testing experimental devices and drugs on humans. I felt that I developed considerably over the course of the year, learning to consider the conceptual challenges of many societal situations, when it came down to actually implementing newly engineered biomedical technologies. I see this as being vital to me as a future societal engineer in the biomedical field, as it is crucial for me to understand the societal issues associated with the development of technologies strikingly similar in nature to those I hope to work with in the future.
