30% of the final assessment for this unit for the chemistry class will be based in the class participation of the students during the Interdisciplinary Review. Students will be graded on the following: Following the rules of the jeopardy game (including the social dynamic of their feudal system), creativity in designing a sense of community within their feudal group, involvement in the dynamic of the game, ability to answer questions (within game rules), and finally, a short reflection on their experience (with respect to food and energy).
30% of their exam will contain content material learned in this unit. The test will include questions based on solving for heat, change in temperature or specific heat in a given situation, and applied knowledge of the amount of Calories contained in a certain food sample based on mass of protein, fat, or carbohydrate.
40% of the exam will be attributed to a Medieval Cookoff chemistry students will have after the Interdisciplinary Review. Students will create a draft of a possible menu for a person of their assigned social class (from history class) for all three meals of the day. Additionally, students will prepare the food and bring it in for a chemistry potluck picnic!
