The development of catapults in Medieval Times changed the way battles were fought.  Armies could launch heavy objects at the opposing army in addition to hand to hand battles.  Catapults were the beginning of biological warfare as rotten garbage and dead bodies were flung into the opposing grounds to spread disease.  These highly advanced contraptions provide an opportunity to study the physics and mathematics behind projectiles.  Students will discover how to predict the distance a projectile will travel after being fired at a certain angle from a catapult.
