Chemistry Objectives (Calorimetry)

Knowledge:

Students know that food is the body’s source of energy.

Students recognize that energy is stored in the bonds of food

                    molecules.

Students recognize that specific heat capacity is a physical property of                       a compound.

Students list the number of Calories in protein, fat and carbohydrates.

Comprehension:

Students convert between Joules and calories.

Students distinguish between an Endothermic and Exothermic

                     reaction.

Application:

Students solve for the amount of heat produced by burning a food.

Students use a calculated specific heat capacity to identify a

                     compound.

Analysis:

Students compare the specific heat capacities of different compounds.

Evaluation:

Students defend statements of endo/exothermic character of a

                      reaction using calculations.
