Here We Go
“This isn’t going to be coherent at all. Here we go.” This starts off my first attempt at a draft, conveniently dubbed E2aa. I was lost, swimming about aimlessly in a pool filled with news stories and first hand reports. Deciding to only mark citations with empty parentheses, I set the timer on my phone for thirty minutes and started typing. I ended up with a little over a page of muddled information. Despite the overhaul this essay eventually encountered between the first and second drafts, many quotes and phrases made it out of this pre-draft unscathed. I added this incident to my list of successful writing strategies. Set a time. Breathe. Write.
