Adventures in Abstracts Part 1

The first day of WR150, I would have told you that an abstract is that odd paragraph sitting at the beginning of a highbrow scholarly work that reads like something between analysis and summary. I had seen them adorning the first pages of many political science articles. Could I write out an example of one? Absolutely not. This was the first writing challenge presented to me by this course. I learned that an abstract needed to specific in describing the aspects of your argument. An abstract is cold and aloof, yet this very quality draws the readers to the essay. When doing the Find Your FEAT assignment, I gave it a try. The result was the most basic form of a try. Clearly, I had not grasped the true nature of an abstract, as evidenced by the misguided ending phrase, “INSERT PERSONAL OPINION.”
