Seminar Description: This seminar is designed to provide a forum for you to prepare for the transition from the academic setting to the practice setting. Attendance is mandatory and, the instructor must be notified prior to Seminar if you are unable to attend.  The Seminar will be graded “Pass/Fail” based on your attendance, participation, and a minimum score of 80 on the Final Quiz. Our focus will be on transitioning from the classroom environment and academic student role to the practice environment and the fieldwork student role.  Topics will include, yet may not be limited to the following:

 

  • Boston University’s Fieldwork Policies & Procedures
  • Transition from Classroom to Practice Settings
  • Level II Expectations
  • Fieldwork Evaluation Procedures
  • Supervisory Relationships
  • Professional Licensure & Credentialing, including NBCOT Examination

 

Seminar Objectives: After completing the seminar, the students will be able to:

 

  1. Utilize basic computer skills to navigate websites:  University Blackboard site for resources and recommended readings, and, relevant professional websites – AOTA & NBCOT.
  2. Access and identify Boston University’s fieldwork policies & procedures.
  3. Understand their role in providing personal and medical insurance information, immunization records, CPR, first aid, results of CORI checks and Child Abuse Clearances, and whatever else might be requested, to each assigned Level II fieldwork site.
  4. Identify the important dates on which forms are due, based on their own schedule (according to distributed “Timelines”).
  5. Understand the importance of the personal data form and how to fill it out.
  6. Know the basic outline for and send an introductory letter to each Level II fieldwork site.
  7. Know BU’s policies regarding absences during fieldwork or termination of fieldwork.
  8. Understand how the ADA and the Buckley Amendment apply to fieldwork and individual student’s requests for reasonable accommodations (as relevant).
  9. Identify themes related to transition from student role to that of entry-level practitioner.
  10. Be aware of strategies and considerations for how to enter a new system.
  11. Have an understanding of the general objectives for a Level II experience.
  12. Have an overview of the Level II experience (typical Level II timelines).
  13. Understand how the Level II fieldwork experience fits into the curriculum.
